In Delaine livery, a Volvo B7TL with aluminium bodywork by East Lancashire coachbuilders.
East Lancs use the Alusuisse method of construction, buying in pre-formed aluminium extrusions from Alusuisse in Switzerland. These sections or planks are then bolted together in the works to form the frame of the bus. No welding or glueing is involved, just bolts and friction. It looks very rudimentary - the workers there describe it as Meccano - and the skeleton of the bus looks very angular and boxy. The finished product however is very different, thanks to the variety of front end windscreens and panels that can be fitted. The only give-away is a very noticeable horizontal line between the side panels of double-deckers at roughly the height of the upper deck floor. It is sealed on the inside to prevent water ingress but it is very obvious when you know it's there.
